One of our favorite new pages features a giant teacup overflowing into a quiet woodland stream. Coloring water can be a highly rewarding challenge for young artists!
Coloring Tip: Encourage children to use three different shades of blue. Start with a light blue base, add medium blue in the deeper areas of the pond, and use dark blue right under the teacup's rim where the shadow falls. To make the waterfall look wet and moving, leave a few thin, uncolored white lines along the curves of the falling water to mimic the natural reflection of light.
Everyday objects take on an ancient, magical quality when they are larger than life. Our new update features hidden wonders like a giant forest magnifying glass and a garden where massive keys grow on vines!
Coloring Tip: To color the brass rim of the magnifying glass or the heavy iron of the giant keys, kids don't need special metallic gel pens—they can create the illusion with standard crayons or colored pencils! For brass, blend a golden-yellow with a touch of light brown on the edges to show tarnish. For iron keys, mix dark gray with hints of dark blue or even a rusty orange to give them an ancient, weathered appearance.
Our new Magical Willow Tree Door provides a fantastic opportunity to practice wood textures.
Coloring Tip: Since willow tree bark is naturally deeply ridged, students can use a dark brown pencil to draw vertical, slightly wavy lines over a lighter tan or gray-brown base. For the smooth, carved wooden door, try using warmer, reddish-browns and blending them softly. This contrast between the rough, ancient tree trunk and the smooth, welcoming door makes the hidden magical home truly pop off the page!
Rounding out our update is the whimsical spool and needle meadow. This page is great for practicing fine motor skills on the tightly wrapped thread. Kids can choose a vibrant, highly saturated color—like magenta or electric blue—for the thread, contrasting it beautifully against the earthy greens of the surrounding forest meadow.
