Welcome to the latest update for our Awesome Vehicles & Machines coloring collection! This month, we are thrilled to introduce a brand-new fleet of heavy-duty workers, high-flying transports, and scenic cruisers.
While coloring the vehicles themselves is always a blast, the backgrounds and environments surrounding them offer a wonderful opportunity for kids to practice new art techniques. Here is a look at our newest additions, along with some creative tips for coloring their unique environments!
Whether your child is coloring a futuristic elevated train or a heavy-duty aircraft, the sky is a massive canvas waiting to be filled.
Coloring Tip: Sky Gradients. Instead of using a single solid shade of blue, encourage children to create a gradient! Start by pressing firmly with a deeper blue crayon at the top of the page, and gently transition to a lighter, softer blue as you move down toward the horizon or the monorail track. You can also use a white crayon to draw fluffy shapes before applying blue—the wax will resist the darker color, leaving perfect white clouds in the sky!
Our new city snowblower truck is perfect for kids who love massive, powerful machines. But how do you color a scene that is mostly covered in freezing precipitation?
Coloring Tip: Shading Snow. Teach your little artists that snow isn't just plain white! To make the snowbanks and the flying powder from the snowblower look realistic and three-dimensional, lightly shade the edges, shadows, and dips with pale blue, soft purple, or light gray. Contrast these cool background tones with a warm, bold color for the truck itself—like a deep cherry red or bright forest green—to make the vehicle really stand out on the page.
Water scenes are incredibly calming to color, and our new classic riverboat offers a fantastic mix of water textures and architectural details.
Coloring Tip: Glass and Water Reflections. The riverboat features a massive curved glass roof. To create a shiny "glassy" effect, draw a few sharp, diagonal streaks of light blue or yellow across the panes to mimic the sun reflecting off the surface. For the river below, combine horizontal strokes of dark blue, teal, and a little bit of green to capture the gentle, rippling movement of the water under the stone bridge.
